Happy Park and Recreation Month!

July is Park and Recreation Month, and we are here for it! This year’s theme is “We Rise Up for Parks and Recreation,” encouraging us all to celebrate how parks add value to our lives, and to honor park professionals who work tirelessly to keep our parks healthy and strong.

Park and Recreation Month, celebrated in July since 1985, helps to promote strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation, and to recognize the 160,000-plus full-time park and recreation professionals — along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers — who maintain our country’s local, state and community parks.

The services these park professionals provide are vital for our communities — from protecting open spaces and natural resources to helping promote health and wellness. This has been especially true throughout the COVID-19 pandemic when parks and trails saw dramatic increases in community use. Park and Recreation Month encourages everyone to reflect on the exponential value of our parks and the park professionals who bring invaluable resources to communities.

At M2L Associates, we couldn’t agree more. In our more than 25 years in business, our deep experience designing and planning parks, recreation and open spaces has defined our firm’s success, with more than 120 Houston-area parks projects in our portfolio, as well as others across the region.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the strong relationships we’ve built with a long list of talented and hard-working parks professionals who’ve partnered with us over many years,” M2L Principal Michael Mauer said. “We strive to make each park unique and tailored to the needs and heritage of each neighborhood and community where we work. We wouldn’t be able to do it without the dedicated professionals who not only champion these individual parks but work hard to maintain their beauty and resilience for all of us.”

M2L works closely with area parks and rec staffs, boards and community stakeholders to make sure community parks, playgrounds, recreational areas, trails and green spaces stay at the forefront of community planning efforts.
