When we first began our journey back in 1995, we were young and ambitious, focused on the here and now, and guided by a 10-year business plan of what we hoped M2L could become. We certainly didn’t dare to think about where our company might be 25 years down the road. We just put our heads down, got to work and focused on providing the highest quality, one project at a time.
With teamwork, persistence and sacrifice, we learned from our mistakes and built upon our market successes, evolving from a firm that initially focused on private residential land planning and landscape architecture design to gradually expanding our expertise in diverse market areas that have helped us stand out from the competition. Our passions for tree preservation, sustainable design, parks, wayfinding signage and master planning led the way and opened doors we couldn’t have imagined 25 years ago.
Today, the results of our work are visible all around greater Houston: historic Emancipation Park, the Houston Holocaust Museum, Downtown Main Street Light Rail, the McGregor Park Master Plan, more than 120 other public and private parks across the region, and much more. What a privilege to play a role in creating hundreds of beautiful spaces and connecting our community’s rich history to our own.
We’re Grateful
We’re beyond grateful for every opportunity and project, and especially to the many people, partners and clients who’ve entrusted us with their vision, inspired us to capture it, and helped us along the way. To every single person—and especially the talented M2L team we call family—thank you for helping our small firm make a big impact on our industry, and our community.
Like many of you, we’ve faced many challenges over the last 25 years, and perhaps none so great as navigating the pandemic and the associated economic and business effects of the last year. But as a new normal begins to emerge, we find hope and inspiration in one unintended consequence of the lockdowns and social distancing: People are more interested and invested in the garden and outdoor spaces. Connections to nature and with each other—values we hold in the highest regard here at M2L—are more important than ever. What a concept to build upon, to unite us and to celebrate!

The pandemic might have altered our in-person anniversary celebrations in 2020, but we believe 25 years is worth celebrating. One way we’re marking this important milestone is by shining a light on 25 things we’re particularly proud to celebrate at our firm. From exciting company news to the notable company we keep, from past projects we’re honoring (like those above) to new projects we’re unveiling, from people who inspire us to causes that impress us, we can’t wait to tell their stories—and ours with it—over the coming months.
