Please join us at 7 p.m. March 5 for Date by the Lake, when the annual gala benefitting the Langham Creek YMCA’s adaptive sports programs returns to live action at The Lakehouse at Towne Lake in Cypress. M2L Associates is proud to support the Miracle League and the YMCA’s adaptive sports programs that benefit disabled children and their families.
The gala is an evening of food and drinks, fun, and both live and silent auctions. Because 2022 marks the program’s 10-year anniversary, this year’s festivities will also honor 10 players and two coaches who were on the first Miracle League teams in 2012 and are still involved today.
Local restauranteurs, food truck owners, brew masters and wine makers, and more gather to share their menu items for the cause. Featured vendors include Union Kitchen Boardwalk Towne Lake, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Simply Greek, Mia’s Table, Heffernan’s BBQ, Cupcake Cowgirls, Fajita Pete’s, Land of a Thousand Hills Bakery, Kesha’s Cookies, The Station Seafood, Rancho La Gloria Margaritas, Foley Family Wines, Lone Pint Brewery, Saint Arnold’s Brewery, Fortress Beerworks and Paradigm Brewing Co.
This year’s auction items range from gift baskets and gift certificates to weekend getaways and event tickets. Live auction bidders will have the chance to win overnight stays and rounds of golf at the University of Texas and Texas A&M golf clubs, a barbeque grill with gourmet cuts of meat, a Fredericksburg wine trip, two plane tickets from Southwest Airlines, and much more.
YMCA Houston’s adaptive sports programs provide children and adults with developmental and physical challenges the chance to play sports and participate in learning opportunities in a safe, fun atmosphere. Programs include Miracle League baseball, flag football, swimming, soccer, tennis, basketball, cheerleading and dance. Participants can experience the thrill of sports and other movement activities and make new friends, while their parents sit back and watch their children participate in activities they may never have dreamed possible, according to event organizers.
Program participants have trained partners, called buddies, who help them learn the sport or activity, navigate the specially designed field or adapted court, and become a mentor and friend.
With strong grassroots leadership and financial support of corporate and individual sponsors, the Langham Creek YMCA adaptive sports program has grown into one of the premier adaptive sports programs in the nation, even hosting the Miracle League All-Star Game in November.
“Last fall, M2L Associates was fortunate to sponsor an All-Star whose life has been changed so positively by playing in the Miracle League, getting to know him and his family at the Langham Creek YMCA,” said M2L Principal Michael Mauer. “It was so inspiring to meet this family and hear how valuable the adaptive sports programs are to these kids and their families. It’s our pleasure to support the work of this organization.”
Following the All-Star game and M2L’s heartwarming experience at the Miracle League, word spread around M2L’s office about the event and soon led to another one of our team volunteering as a buddy in the Miracle League. “We hope to spread the word so more people learn about this special organization and find a way to support its important work,” Mauer said.
